21 singers come together to pay tribute to MS

Carnatic legend MS Subbulakshmi’s popular rendition of Bhaja Govindam has got a new touch with 21 singers from the film industry and Carnatic music scene coming together to pay tribute to the doyenne of Carnatic music with the same song.
“When a bunch of us, musicians, launched a new label to provide a platform to upcoming musicians, we were looking for a good song to start with.That’s when we zeroed in on Bhaja Govindam. It was Saindhavi’s idea to sing the song. After all, Bhaja Govindam is one song that is played in most households. Also, the song was long enough to split the lyrics among 21 singers. The song was our first release and it has come out really well,” says an excited Rahul Nambiar.
Singer Srinivas, who has rendered a few lines in the version, tells us, “MS Amma is part of everyone’s life and her rendition of the song is so pure and perfect. So, I had to ensure that I deliver the lines perfectly and not fall short anywhere. I practised my lines well. Overall, it was a beautiful experience.”
